A hoodie that will spread out in your garden
In the era of fast online shopping and fast fashion, more and more is being said about the damage the fashion industry is doing to the environment. After all, tons of clothes bought at sales not only have to be manufactured, but also thrown away at some point. This sweatshirt is the perfect idea for those who love ecology!
The Vollebak brand, famous for its innovative products, has created a sweatshirt that can be composted in the home garden. Its schedule is expected to take only eight weeks. The garment is made of eucalyptus trees colored with garnet. The sweater is made of fibers from sustainably managed forests.
"The Plant and Pomegranate Hoodie feels like a normal hoodie, looks like a normal hoodie, and lasts as long as a normal hoodie, but it starts its life in nature and is designed to end up there too," said Vollebak co-founder Steve Tidball.
"So when the hoodie has reached the end of its life – whether that's in three years' time or 30 – it can be put out with the compost or buried in the garden.”
The decomposition time is largely dependent on the environment, but should be around eight weeks. When creating the sweatshirt design, brand representatives looked for inspiration in prehistory, when fabrics derived from nature were part of everyday life. To create the hoodie, Vollebak looked back 50 centuries to the earliest humans, who wore biodegradable clothes. "If we look back at Otzi man – one of our ancestors who was found preserved in ice for over 5,000 years – his clothes were made of plants, tree bark, grass, and animal skins," said Tidball.
