Less is more
Residence Alma is an example of a very interesting approach to design. Architects from Atelier Barda undertook the renovation of the building from the beginning of the 20th century. Ultimately, two comfortable apartments were to be built there, which were to delight not only with a well-thought-out interior design, but also with a connection with nature.
The building is located in the Little Italy district of Montreal. As the architects say, one of the main assumptions was to preserve the existing facade. Major changes have been made inside the property.
There is a commercial space downstairs, a guest apartment above it, and the client's main apartment above it. It is worth paying attention to the spectacular courtyard, thanks to which a lot of natural light flows into the interior. There is also a place for lush vegetation and a comfortable Japanese bathtub.
The client likes to throw parties, so it was decided to place the kitchen and dining room on the mezzanine, from which you can get to two terraces. When it comes to interiors, the architects wanted to create spaces full of minimalist luxury.
The subtle details that make up the strength of the project were chosen. There are oiled oak planks on the floor, which make the interior more cozy. Devoid of ornaments and overdesign, the minimalist interior by Atelier Barda uses the contrast between white walls and black accessories.
The architects worked closely with local artisans to design custom furniture that complements the residence. Local masons are responsible for the black terrazzo sinks.
