From 60 meters to 200. How to effectively transfer what already works?

A new home, yet the same way of life. The owners of this 200-square-meter house near Warsaw asked Hanna Pietras not to reinvent their daily routine, but to transfer what worked in their previous 60-square-meter apartment—with more freedom, light, and space for the things they had been missing until now.

This is most evident in the kitchen. The functional layout was transferred almost one-to-one because it had been proven in practice; instead of looking to Pinterest for inspiration, the architect began by analyzing the inhabitants' habits. What changed was the scale: the previously dark and enclosed kitchen was opened to the living area, enlarged, and brightened by floor-to-ceiling windows, while a kitchen island became the center of life, with the home naturally orbiting around it. Large expanses of glazing "draw" the garden inside, ensuring the greenery is no longer just a view but a tangible element of the interior.

The tall living room, with bookshelves reaching all the way to the ridge, is not a display of scale but a response to a very specific need—there is finally room for the library that could previously only be imagined.

Neutral walls and wooden floors provide the base, but color works here as a tool rather than a decoration: mustard kitchen cabinetry warms the space, green reappears on doors and fireplace details, while red appears selectively in furniture and accessories. The entire scheme is tied together by a simple, bold blue LEXAVALA linear lamp over the island, which organizes the composition and gives it a distinct rhythm.

However, the most "homely" places are those where the design consciously steps outside the textbook for modern interiors. In the kitchen, an arched niche appears with a sideboard and playful monkey wallpaper, originally designed for the Milanese pastry shop Dulciora—slightly retro, a bit whimsical, and instantly evoking associations with memory and everyday life. The same wallpaper returns in the bathroom, creating a discreet link between rooms, more through mood than a literal "set." The design does not try to be an Instagram showroom: it allows for lightness and accepts the small imperfections of life, which makes it feel authentic.

This interior is essentially a story of consistency. Instead of a radical reset, we have an evolution of proven decisions within a new context: more square footage, more light, the same sensibility. The house demonstrates that a solid starting point does not age quickly—it can be transferred, corrected, and expanded upon, without the need to start from scratch every few years.
