Photo of a nurse on call with the title of Grand Press Photo 2020
Jacek Szydłowski ("Dziennik Wschodni") won the National Press Photography Competition Grand Press Photo 2020. Photo of the Year presents a nurse from the Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 4 in Lublin on duty in a special tent for segregating patients during a coronavirus pandemic.
Author of the Picture of the Year received the main prize of 10,000 zł. Szydłowski's photo, taken on March 23, also won the first prize in the Events category.
The Grand Press Photo jury was chaired by Pieter Ten Hoopen, a 46-year-old Swedish photojournalist, member of the VU agency in Paris and co-founder of the Civilian Act in Stockholm, four-time winner of World Press Photo (2008, 2010 and twice in 2019) and three-time winner of the Photographer of the Year in Sweden . The jury also included: Beata Łyżwa-Sokół ("Gazeta Wyborcza"), Maksymilian Rigamonti (Press Club Polska and ZPAF, winner of Grand Press Photo 2012 and 2019), Maarten Schilt (Schilt Publishing & Gallery), Radu Sigheti (Reuters), Andrzej Zygmuntowicz (ZPAF). In this year's edition with over 5.2 thousand The jury qualified 42 single photos, 15 photojournalism, four documentary projects in the main categories as well as two single photos and three photojournalism in the Young Poland category.
