Poland's largest sculpture exhibition opens in Warsaw. It runs until the end of August
The ToTuart Gallery and Auction House presents the fourth edition of the Laboratorium Rzeźby exhibition – this year for the first time in a biennial format. The works can be viewed at two locations of the ToTuart Gallery and Auction House – at the Praga Center Koneser and the Młociny Gallery in Warsaw. The event runs from July 1 to August 31, 2024.
The theme of this year’s Laboratorium Rzeźby Biennale 2024 is "Organic Intelligence," serving as a pretext for discussing artistic creation in the age of artificial intelligence – increasingly used in various areas of our lives. Will AI replace artists, thus turning the definition of art upside down, or will it rather play a merely supportive, workshop-like role, similar to other technological advancements over the centuries?
“Artists do not create in a vacuum, and the impact of AI on creativity is increasingly evident in the works of art being created. However, some are returning to the roots, choosing direct contact with the material, using classic sculptural techniques. The exhibition features nearly 100 sculptures, each of which relates – in technique, material used, or theme – to the phenomenon of the ubiquity of artificial intelligence,” emphasizes Weronika Rezmer, the exhibition curator.
“This year’s Laboratorium Rzeźby showcase is not only a review of contemporary trends in Polish sculpture but also a reflection on the place of humans in a technologically changing world,” she adds.
The Laboratorium Rzeźby Biennale 2024 presents the works of over 40 artists in nearly 100 pieces made in various aesthetics, techniques, and materials: from ceramics and wood to marble and bronze, as well as 3D prints.
Alongside works by renowned artists such as Wojciech Siudmak and increasingly internationally recognized artists like Michał Jackowski, the event features dozens of works by young and mid-career artists, mostly graduates of art schools. Among them are Tomasz Krzpiet, Mariusz Kumor, Marta Matelier, Michał Matysiak, Piotr Woźniak, Rafał Olbiński, Marek Malottki, Konrad Tomaszewski, Ella Das, Adrian Pannebaker, Adamski Wawrzyniec, Józef Nowak, Piotr Butkiewicz, Sławek Szymczak, Franciszek Szczepaniec, and Martyna Stążkiewicz.
“In artist and art lover circles, including collectors, this largest commercial review of Polish sculptural creativity is increasingly being recognized as one of the most important events dedicated to sculpture in Poland,” says Dominik Zieliński, managing director and curator of the ToTuart Gallery and Auction House.
The Laboratorium Rzeźby Biennale runs from July 1 to August 31, 2024, and is presented at two ToTuart Gallery and Auction House locations – at the Praga Center Koneser at 10A Konesera Square (entrance in the passage) and at the Młociny Gallery at 15 AK “Kampinos” Grouping (1st floor) in Warsaw. The exhibition is ticketed (regular ticket 40 PLN, reduced ticket 20 PLN). The same ticket is valid at both locations and can be purchased directly at the exhibition and on the portal www.eventim.pl.
