M.A.D Collectif - space in constant evolution
M.A.D Collectif (Mode, Arts et Divertissements) is a creative studio based in Montreal. For over 20 years, it has been organizing events related to fashion, art and design around the world. In 2022, the collective worked to rethink its entire approach to its industry, starting with a complete rebranding (previously Groupe Sensation Mode) and creating a new office. This last point was entrusted to experienced architects from Ivy Studio.
The new studio M.A.D. Collectif is located on the ground floor of a two-story building in the heart of the Village, one of Montreal's liveliest neighborhoods. The goal for the new location was to focus on creativity and collaboration and use it not only internally by the team, but also by their many partners and collaborators. A flexible space was created for sharing ideas and working together. The new office is also a great opportunity to exhibit local artists and craftsmen or organize special events, exhibitions and pop-ups.
The former printing house was built in 1939. As you enter the space, you enter directly into the cafe. The bar serves as a kitchen area for staff during the day and as a bar for evening events. Then you can go to an open space with a living room, where photo sessions take place. A 16-foot long ramp is used to move from one place to another. In this part of the building along the perimeter walls, a number of work places have been arranged. At the back, where there is natural light, there are closed offices, call rooms and meeting rooms.
Taking into account the nature of the company and its brief, the designers focused on creating a very flexible space that can be used for work, meetings and fashion events. This inspired a "work in progress" aesthetic where the space seems to be in a constant state of evolution. Raw construction materials are exposed, plumbing and ventilation systems are painted white. Minimalist furniture completes the whole, creating an interesting but not overwhelming mix.
