Unfortunately, the family living here did not have much time to enjoy their beautiful, new apartment. Due to the war, they had to separate: the father stayed in Kiev, and the mother and the child fled abroad, to a safer place. The apartment is located in a building erected in 1917 in the historical center of Kiev, a few steps from the Pechersk Lavra.
- "A white and gray apartment without unnecessary elements - this is how customers described their future home. When they sent me a photo of the interior created by the Swedish studio Alvhem, I realized that we are on the same side. It helped us to see ideas the first time, even though most of our collaboration was remote due to my trip to Mexico, ”says designer Elena Petrescu.
The clients took the project very seriously as a conscious step in their lives. For about a year, the family with a first-grade student were looking for a flat to buy. The main criteria were the old building, high ceilings and large windows. Customers were aware of the history of design. They created a wish list for their new apartment, such as the Louis Poulsen table lamp, Carl Hansen & Son armchair and Thonet chairs for the kitchen. These purchases did not fit into the planned budget, but they ended up in the apartment anyway.
A slight redevelopment of the space was necessary to make the apartment more functional. The kitchen was connected to the living room and the living space was enlarged by removing the corridor.
The spacious kitchen and living room lead to the bedroom and children's room. There is also a small balcony with garden chairs. In the parents' bedroom, there is a spacious wardrobe on the opposite wall. The bed and storage space for the children's room have been designed to order. There is a mattress on the second level and a sofa and a storage space for toys on the first level.
The design fits the canons of Scandinavian design with natural materials, a white and gray color palette combined with shades of light wood and minimalist decorations. Pictures on the walls, which are used to create color accents, also correspond to the restrained color palette.
The owner of the apartment is a professional florist. For her, it was crucial to have a large dining table on which to arrange bouquets. All plants in the interior were also selected by her.
- When you enter the apartment, you feel calm. Against the background of gray walls, people with their relationships and daily rituals come to the fore. The interior does not distract from what is most important - adds designer Elena Petrescu.
We hope that the owners of this apartment will be able to return to it as soon as possible and enjoy the peace taken by the war.
